Obituary of Sarah O Mfon

Sarah Oluremilekun Abimbola Mfon (nee Roberts) commonly known as "Ms Olu" was born on Friday, November 18th 1938 in Freetown, Sierra Leone to the late Samuel Ethelbert Joko Roberts and Stella Keketrah Gemima Roberts. She was the youngest of her siblings, sister to the late Henrietta Olabisi Roberts and Ophelia Sukunda Peters and 2 brothers Victor and Sedley Roberts.  

 

 On Sunday, October 27th 2019, at 11:35am, she answered to the Master's call at home surrounded by her family after a short illness.  

   

Mommy attended the Oshora Girls School, that later became "FSSG" - Freetown Secondary School for Girls. She went on to her professional career as the secretary to the managing director of Sierra Leone Rice Corporation.  

 

She was married to the love of her life, the late Presiding Elder Robert Odiongito Mfon on November 21st 1962 and their relationship lasted for 28yrs till death separated them. She was a faithful and dedicated wife, gave up her career to become a housewife to care for her husband after a devastating accident. She was the strength and pillar to her family.  She was a devoted and caring mother to Ezekiel Alex, Emmanuel Victor, Elizabeth Nkoyo and the late Elijah Okon.   

 

Mommy was a devout and God-fearing woman whose favorite pastime is praising and worshipping God through good and bad times. Some of her favorite phrases were: "God bless you and strengthen you” and "You pray for me and I pray for you".  

 

Due to the war in Sierra Leone, she went with her son, Emmanuel and his family to the Gambia to seek refuge. After a few travels, she lived in London with her daughter Elizabeth till July 2018 when she joined her son Ezekiel and his family in America. After some years away from Sierra Leone, she visited her homeland in June 2017 and had some exciting and memorable moments with old time friends and family members. She enjoys the company of family and friends, always feeling sad when the gathering comes to an end.  

 

She leaves to cherish her memory: Ezekiel (Dorothy), Emmanuel (Luceratu) and Elizabeth (Tony). Her step daughter, May LeGrand Hamilton (Mark) Her grandchildren, Sarah, Robert, Rachael and Joshua. Her adopted sister, Edith Fullah, adopted son, Willie George, several nieces and nephews including: Halima, Stella, Gloria, Gifty, Admire, Ayo, Aminatah, Marie and Oredola. Her best friends, Edmund Vincent, Sister Lucy, Mama Fynn and Mina. Several families and friends including the Mfon, Roberts, Cooper, Rashid, Ulamen-Eweka, George, Paul, Williams, Gabbidon, Knox-Macauley, Meheux and Fullah. 

 

May her soul rest in perfect peace and may light perpetual shine upon her.  

 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing on Saturday morning from 10:00AM to 12:00PM at Asbury United Methodist Church, 2926 Westfield Ave., Camden, NJ 08105. Funeral Service 12:00PM.
