Obituary of Richard S Winkler

Please share a memory of Richard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Richard Scott Winkler, of Atco, NJ, passed away in the early hours of November 3, 2019.  He died peacefully surrounded by family after a long battle with illness.

Also known by friends and family as “Rich,” “Richie,” “Dad,” and even “’Chard,” those close to him appreciated his wonderful sense of humor and concern for others.  Rich maintained his gift for looking at the humorous side of life, during his hospital or rehabilitation stays. Born in New York City, to the late Lois and Milton Winkler, he developed an early passion for The Beatles,  New York Yankees, and team sports.

During his formative years, Rich attended New York City public and private schools. He majored in Political Science, at Rider University, and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. At Rider, Rich met many people who would change the course of his life. These included numerous friends, and his wife and life partner, Rita Spaulding. They were married for 32 years and lived in South Jersey. There they raised their three children, Kyle, Kerry, and Kara Winkler.

Rich was a dedicated and loving father and husband who spent years coaching sports teams and was devoted to all the activities in which his children participated.  In addition, Rich was an avid reader and enjoyed the simple things in life. This included being with his family and doing whatever was in his power to help those in need.  In his professional life, Rich worked as an Information Technologies consultant, particularly as a technical writer, when this field was just developing.

In addition to his immediate family, Rich is survived by his beloved sister Ellen J. Winkler of New York City, and many cousins.
