Mrs. Consuelo “Connie” (Grau) Lanza, age 93, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, January 31, 2020 at her home. She was the loving wife of the late Charles S. Lanza. Mrs. Lanza was born on January 27, 1927, in Benilloba, Alicante, Spain, daughter of the late Jose and Consuelo (Miro) Grau. She was a graduate of Leavenworth High School. She was her husband, Charlie’s biggest supporter and was a familiar face for many years at their market, Lanza’s Handy Dandy. She was a longtime member of the Lega Siciliana Social Club. Dedicated to her family and friends, Connie was supreme hostess to all who entered her home. She had a gift of making everyone in her presence feel like family. A master in the kitchen, Connie was happiest cooking for everyone whether it was her peppers and eggs for breakfast or her specialty paella for dinner. Her smile and her quick wit will be missed by all who knew her. Connie is survived by her son, Joseph Lanza of Bantam; her granddaughters Melissa Janeiro and her husband Michael of Waterbury, Alexis Draskinis and her husband Ryan of Thomaston and Valerie Tirado of Waterbury and her two great grandsons Anthony Draskinis and Jaxson Hotham. She also leaves her sister Josephine Bochicchio of Melbourne, FL as well as several generations of nieces and nephews including her niece Elaine Costantino of FL and nephews Vic (Rosemarie) Costantino and Tom (Denise) Costantino of NJ and also family living in Spain. In addition to her husband, Charlie, Connie was predeceased by her beloved daughter Linda Lanza. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 from 10:00-11:30am at Maiorano Funeral Home, 95 Willow St., Waterbury. Entombment will be private.
