Obituary of Clorinda Torres

Clorinda Torres, de 77 años, de Lindenwold NJ, falleció el 18 de febrero de 2021.

Clorinda A. Torres fue una madre cariñosa y devota de Michael E. Avila (Laurie née Underkofler) y Janice D. Torres, quien sacrificó toda su vida adulta para enseñar, corregir y educar a sus hijos con amorosa bondad y firmeza.

Además de que le sobreviven sus hijos y su nuera, Laurie, le sobreviven tambien su hermano mayor, Oswaldo Bastante, y su hermana menor, Juana Rengifo. Le sobreviven sus tres nietas, Devynne, Brynne y Kailynne Avila, todas las cuales trajeron mucha alegría a su vida. Ella siempre adoraba a sus nietas y era cariñosamente conocida por ellas como 'Bita'. Las nietas disfrutaron de las fiestas de pijamas con Bita y de las vacaciones familiares en los Outer Banks (OBX), donde disfrutaron de largas noches mirando películas, nadando en la piscina y sumergiendo los pies en el mar.

Clorinda llegó a Estados Unidos desde Perú el Domingo de Ramos, 26 de marzo de 1972 y rápidamente y fácilmente llegó a amar a Estados Unidos y su gente mientras se convertía en una verdadera patriota que amaba los ideales estadounidenses. Trajo a su hijo, Michael, de Perú en junio de 1976, donde rápidamente aprovechó las oportunidades estadounidenses que se le brindaban para tener una mejor vida para ella y sus hijos para que su futuro fuera brillante. Nunca se quejó de lo que no tenía, sino que solo se concentró en lo que podía hacer para superar sus humildes circunstancias, sin usar excusas para aceptar menos de sus metas deseadas. Clorinda fue una mujer decidida y de voluntad fuerte que enfrentó los desafíos de la vida de frente sin ceder al miedo. Cuando se enfrentaba a desafíos, su lema era: "¡Puedo perder, pero nunca sin luchar!"

Usó esa mentalidad y concentró sus esfuerzos y energía en ver a sus dos hijos graduarse de la Universidad de Drexel, que fue uno de los momentos culminantes de su vida y un testimonio de su arduo trabajo y actitud de no rendirse que fomentó como madre soltera. Les enseñó a sus hijos verdaderas lecciones de la vida a partir de las circunstancias de su vida que no se pueden enseñar en la escuela o en otro lugar y que continúan aportando valor a la vida de sus hijos.

Clorinda amaba al Señor Jesucristo y en 1991 hizo una profesión de fe para recibirlo como Señor y Salvador. Durante 29 años fue miembro fiel de su iglesia local y pasó 23 de esos años involucrada en el ministerio hispano, donde fue un elemento constante ayudando y sirviendo junto a su hijo, dondequiera que podía. El Señor Jesús la ayudó a alcanzar todos los momentos cumbre de su vida, pero lo más importante es que Dios caminó con ella por todos sus valles, siempre sosteniéndola de la mano hasta que logró atravesar los valles. El Señor acompañó una vez más a Clorinda en su último viaje por el valle de la muerte y al final del camino, fue llevada a la gloria para pasar la eternidad con su Señor y Salvador, Jesucristo. Tanto en reuniones privados como públicos, Clorinda siempre le dio crédito a Dios por cada éxito y logro en su vida sin tomar crédito porque había aprendido que solo a Dios pertenece toda la gloria - ¡Soli Deo Gloria!

Durante su vida, el Señor Jesús bendijo ricamente a Clorinda y ella, a su vez, fue una bendición para los demás. No solo abrió las puertas de su casa para que todos los visitantes disfrutaran de la comida, el compañerismo, la diversión y la oración, sino que a lo largo de los años también abrió su casa para brindar alojamiento a los necesitados o a los en transición. También abrió su billetera para ayudar a otras personas que tenían necesidades económicas y, a través de todos sus actos de bondad, demostró el amor de Dios que estaba en su corazón.

Familiares y amigos están invitados a asistir a su visita el martes por la mañana de 10:00 a.m. a 11:00 a.m. en la Iglesia Bautista del Puerto 2131 Marne Highway, Hainesport NJ. Clorinda A. Torres was a loving and devoted mother to Michael E. Avila (Laurie née Underkofler) and Janice D. Torres who sacrificed her entire adult life to teach, correct, and educate her children with loving kindness and firmness.

In addition to being survived by her children and daughter-in-law, Laurie, she is survived by her eldest brother, Oswaldo Bastante, and her youngest sister, Juana Rengifo. She is survived by her three granddaughters, Devynne, Brynne, and Kailynne Avila, all of whom brought much joy to her life. She always doted on her grandchildren and was affectionately known by them as 'Bita'. The grandchildren enjoyed sleepovers with Bita and taking family vacations to the Outer Banks (OBX) where they enjoyed long movie nights, swimming in the pool, and dipping their feet in the ocean.

Clorinda arrived in America from Peru on Palm Sunday, March 26, 1972 and she quickly and easily grew to love America and its people while becoming a true patriot who loved the American ideals.  She brought her son, Michael, from Peru in June 1976 where she quickly grabbed a hold of the American opportunities afforded to her to make a better living for her and her children so that their future would be bright. She never complained about what she didn't have but only concentrated on what she could do to rise above her humble circumstances, while never using excuses to accept less than her desired goals. Clorinda was a strong-willed and decisive woman who faced the challenges of life head-on while never yielding to fear. When faced with challenges, her motto was, "I may go down but never without a fight!"

She used that mindset and concentrated her efforts and energy into seeing both her children graduate from Drexel University, which was one of the crowning moments of her life and a testament to her hard work and no-quit attitude she fostered as a single mother. She taught her children true life lessons out of the circumstances of her life that can not be taught in school or elsewhere and which continue to provide value to her children's lives.

Clorinda loved the Lord Jesus Christ and in 1991 she made a profession of faith to receive him as Lord and Savior.  For 29 years she was a faithful member of her local church and spent 23 of those years involved in the Spanish ministry, where she was a constant fixture helping and serving alongside her son, wherever she could. The Lord Jesus helped her reach all the peak moments in her life but most importantly He walked with her through all her valleys, always holding her by the hand until she made it through the valleys. The Lord once again accompanied Clorinda on her last journey through valley of death and at the end of the road, she was taken to glory to spend eternity with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  Both in private and in public settings, Clorinda always credited God with every success and achievement in her life while not taking credit because she had learned that only to God belongs all the glory - Soli Deo Gloria!

Over her lifetime, the Lord Jesus richly blessed Clorinda and she in turn was a blessing to others. Not only did she open the doors to her house for all visitors to enjoy food, fellowship, fun, and prayer but over the years she also opened her house to provide living accommodations to those in need or in transition. She also opened her wallet to help others that were in financial need and through all her kind acts she demonstrated the love of God that was in her heart.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing on Tuesday morning from 10:00AM to 11:00AM at the Harbor Baptist Church 2131 Marne Highway, Hainesport NJ. Funeral liturgy 11:00AM.
