Obituary of Virma Johnson

Please share a memory of Virma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Virma Johnson (81) was born on September 7th, 1939 to Mariano and Julia Amaro in Culebra, Puerto Rico.  After a long life filled with love and laugher, she passed away Monday, June 21, 2021.

Virma’s earlier years were spent in Puerto Rico but in her teens, her family moved to Philadelphia, PA.  She was known for her loving nature and overwhelming kindness.  She was always willing to help or lend a listening ear.  Her determination to do what was right, and her love for people is what led her to dedicate her life to Jehovah and make it known to all that she was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.  Virma exercised a true dedication to her ministry and an unwavering devotion to her faith. She loved family barbeques and even with a seafood allergy, would be ready to chow down on some crabs and shrimp with a cold glass of Iced Tea.

Over sixty years ago, she met the love of her life and married John L Johnson Sr.  From this union, they had four children.

Vrima had many roles that she mastered.  She was a loving devoted wife and mother; a wonderful and meticulous homemaker who enjoyed cooking, baking, and being with family and friends.

She treasured family and looked fondly upon her role as a proud aunt to her nieces, nephews, and their children.  One of her most enjoyable roles was being “granny/mom-mom” where she was actively involved in the upbringing of all her grandchildren, showering them with love and instilling strong family values.

A true matriarch, at the center of her children, she was a protector of her family.  She adored being surrounded by her family and was often quoted saying “my family is my life.”  An avid Eagles and Phillies’ fan, Virma was also a great bowler and was close to having a perfect score.  She also loved to dance and could often be found on the dance floor.

Virma held dear memories of those who proceeded her in death, husband; John L. Johnson Sr., brother; Ismael Amaro, her parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She leaves to cherish her memories four children: Madree, Mario (Maria), Virma Lee (Keith), and John Jr. (Kim); twelve grandchildren: Gregory, Travis (Chanelle), Jenivere (Steve Jr.), Justin (Latalia), Ian (Amber), Brandon, Whitney, Tara (Louis), Selina (Shawn), Teara, Alexis, Evan; seventeen great-grandchildren Jailen, Angel, Ysabella, Elliana, Ethan, Riley, Jayden, Brandon, Amaya, Ian Jr., Louis, Victoria, Jovanni, Penelope, Hendrix, Ezekiel and Maddox; three brothers: Fasio, Louis, Jesus and one sister: Julia; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends.

Services for Virma will take place through zoom with the family. Arrangements under the direction of the COSTANTINO-PRIMO FUNERAL HOME, BERLIN NJ. To leave lasting condolences or photos, please use the links on this page.
