I, too, happened to think about Connie today and so I googled her to sadly find that she had passed. I remembered her because about 50 years ago Connie was kind to me in a way I've never forgotten.
Let me paint the picture. 9th grade, gym class, deeply-dreaded softball game. Dreaded because I didn't know sports. At all. I didn't know the rules and had never tried it before. I was picked nearly last for the team but was thrilled by the cheers when I hit a single during my first at-bat. Then, at the next play, I didn't understand when my teammates seemed so hateful when I artfully leapt and caught the ball of the next batter up. I caught the hit of my own teammate, you understand. Blinking back tears, confused and unable to think clearly, I skulked off. Flash forward to the next gym class. Another lord-save-me softball game. Connie picked me first for her team. Connie leaned quietly over my shoulder and told me how to play. Connie cheered for me. She was wonderful.
Today it’s a hilarious memory of what a spectacular goof I was, but also a memory of when Connie showed by example of what it means to be compassionate and kind.

My deepest condolences to Connie’s family. I was a client of Connie’s and never could determine what happened to her after she told me a few years ago that she was getting a back operation. She loved her job and often told me so. We had lots of laughs as she was always full of sunshine. I just happened to think of her today, looked her up, and found the notice. Funny how the universe works. I will never forget you Connie. You were bigger than life and full of love. Sophia Smith

We met Connie through her sister, Pat. We'd like to remember her as the sweet, loving person she was to everyone, always with a smile, always thinking of others before herself. She certainly will be missed but the many fond memories of laughter and fun will always remain in our hearts. Our sincere sympathy goes out to her beautiful family. We are sad that you left us but happy that you are finally at peace...........Jim and Joanne Barron

My condolences to the family and friends of Connie for your loss of a remarkable person. To me, she will always be “the Mayor of Cape May” where she brought so many smiles and hugs. Be at peace. (And give my mom one of your big hugs!)

There are no words that can begin to describe the sadness of learning of Connie's passing. I found myself looking at photographs last night, of what feels like an eternity ago, and it brought back so many wonderful memories; Golfing, all you can eat crabs, Mikado's and one of my favorites her playing detective when one of my bigger cases made the paper or happened in her neighborhood. The one thing that I will always remember first when I think about Connie are her hugs. From someone who is not a hugger, Connie broke me down as she said she would. She was one of the kindest people I have ever met. We might not have not been a part of each others daily lives in some time, but I am still blessed that she was a part of my life at all.
JB I am so sorry for your loss. My condolences to her family.
