Obituary of William Everett McBride

Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

William E. McBride, 67 years, of Voorhees NJ, passed away on October 23, 2021.  Son of the late Freddie and Rosetta McBride.  Loving father of Alicia Janelle McBride and Christopher David McBride (Talia). Dear brother of Jacqueline Glenda McBride, Deborah Uqdah (the late Devin), Michael McBride (Tamara), Belinda McBride, Anthony McBride (Paula) and the late Frederick McBride and Antoinette McBride. Cherished grandfather of Janae Briana Fisher, Rayna Lee and Chandler David Evans. Also survived by his ex-wife and mother of their children Janice McBride; his mother-in-law Alice Butler and brother-in-law Widmon Butler.

William attended the Simon Gratz High School, University of Pennsylvania where he earned a B.A. in African American Studies and Glassboro State where he gained his Teaching Certification. He worked for many years at the Osage Elementary and Voorhees Middle Schools; he coached basketball and ran the chess club at Voorhees Middle School and coached JV basketball at Haddon Heights High School. He was a proud US Army veteran, a member of OMEGA PSI PHI FRATERNITY, INC. and the Grace Temple Baptist Church Ministries. Some of his favorite things to do were biblical studies, learning, teaching, collecting African and African American historical art. He enjoyed chess, football, basketball, health and fitness.

William was a passionate scholar, mentor, and disciple of Christ. While an educator at his core, his world was his children and family. William cherished his family and enjoyed being a father and never missed an opportunity to demonstrate his love for his children. He was a natural at instilling values and character into his children because being an educator was the root of who he was. Since being a father filled his heart, becoming a grandfather lit up his spirit. His grandchildren brought immense joy to his life.

Teaching was tailormade for William. William was an educator who practiced what he taught and was steadfast in details. Apart from his love of learning, he often sought out reliable and citable resources for a holistic understanding. From textbook to Biblical studies, the approach was always learning to understand, and then understanding to teach.
