Obituary of Thomas Barclay Evans

Please share a memory of Thomas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Thomas Barclay Evans, Sr 73, of Tabernacle NJ, passed away December 31, 2021.

Tom was born on August 31, 1948 to parents Barclay and Miriam Evans in Berlin, NJ. He was the older brother of two siblings, Gary and Carl.  On October 17, 1970 Tom was married to his high school sweetheart, Jane (Schmitt), and they remained happily married for 51 years. They went on to have two children, Thomas Barclay, Jr and Amy Elizabeth.  A Vietnam Veteran, Tom proudly served his country as a Navy Seabee.  Tom loved to work and worked hard his entire life to provide for his family as a licensed electrician for several companies. He held a position on the Board for The Builders League of South Jersey, and later ran his own Electrical business before proudly becoming a Licensed Electrical Inspector for the State of New Jersey.

An avid fisherman, Tom loved spending time on the water.  In their newlywed days, Tom and Jane owned a boat and cherished time on the Great Bay before starting their family and building their own home in Tabernacle. Tom loved attending flea markets and local auction houses. He enjoyed watching football, attending Phillies games, vacationing in the Outer Banks, delighting in a great meal, and spending time with his family. He enjoyed music and would sing along every chance he got.

Tom was inseparable with his best friend and wife Jane, and when Tom wasn’t working, they were rarely seen apart. Tom loved his wife and children and his number one priority was making them happy. He provided for his family and gave them everything they needed, never wanting anything for himself. He loved animals and his two dogs Abby and Bella, as well as the many other companions that came and went over the years. He was always ready with a quick joke or a funny story, no matter the situation, and was able to make an entire room laugh.  He was known and liked wherever he went. Tom will be extremely missed by family and friends.

Tom was predeceased by his parents and mother-in-law Florence.  He was survived by his wife Jane (since deceased on June 9,2022), son Thomas (Adrienne), daughter Amy Elizabeth (Todd Lisella), grandchildren Anna and Emma, father-in-law William Schmitt Jr., and brother-in-law William Schmitt III (Brenda).
