Many condolence's to Karen and daughters, as well as the the whole McGuckin family : Joel was the first friend I had, ....thru the years We had many a good time and laugh either simply watching a college football game on TV or sitting around a fire pit in our yards, eating and having some "cold ones" discussing & solving the worlds problems. He was an intelligent & fun friend......He will be missed.....RIP

I would like to extend my sincere condolences to Karen and daughters and the entire McGuckin family. Having grown up in Ashland I have known Joel for well over 50 years. In our youth we had many wonderful and fun times together and with mutual friends. The running gag back then was that where ever we went Joel always came across someone he knew. Joel seemed to know EVERYONE and was a friend to all. My lasting impression of Joel was his upbeat nature, perpetual smile and his passion for education and teaching. Rest in peace my friend. Just wanted to share a story about my big Brother Joel.
We were golfing with Brothers Dan and John,
The rain started to come down hard, John and Dan picked up their ball and sat in their carts for shelter (the sensible ones).
Joel looked at me drenched, hardly being able to open our eyes with the rain and wind blowing, saying a line from Caddy Shack
"I don't think the heavy stuff will be here for a while". We kept playing when our clubs started flying out of our hands from being wet (not a from rage).
Joel will be missed,
Love You Big Brother,
Michael
