Obituary of Donald M. Cannon

Donald M. Cannon, 86 years, of New Freedom Village in Berlin NJ, passed away on February 20, 2022. Loving and devoted husband of 57 years to Gloria (née Duraczynski). Loving father of Michael (Karen) Cannon and Jennifer Cannon. Dear brother of Dolores Campbell, Kathleen McCafferty, Marcella (Francis) Barrett, Michelle (Joseph) Singer and the late Thomas Cannon. Cherished grandpop of Jaime Michele Cannon and dear friend and brother-in-law of Edward Duraczynski. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

 

Donald was born and raised in West Philadelphia, son of the late Alice (née Glad) and John Cannon of Collingdale PA. Don graduated from St. Tommy More High School in West Philadelphia, and was inducted into their sports Hall of Fame. He lettered in three sports and was selected by the Philadelphia Inquirer for their 1953 All City Basketball Team. He attended Temple University and St. Joseph’s University.

 

Don served his country honorably in the United States Air Force, where he served in special services, playing basketball throughout Europe. He worked in the computer division of IBM and General Electric in Philadelphia PA, also RCA in Camden NJ and Cigna in Voorhees NJ from where he retired. Don was a member of the Knights of Columbus for 54 years at the Holy Child Council #3532 in Hilltop since October 13, 1967, and served as Grand Knight in 1973. In May 1970 he became a member of the 4th degree Bishop Eustace General Assembly for 52 years. In his spare time, Don enjoyed collectables, was an avid reader and loved listening to classical music.

 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing on Monday morning from 9:30AM to 10:30AM at the COSTANTINO-PRIMO FUNERAL HOME, 231 W. WHITE HORSE PIKE, BERLIN NJ 08009. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00AM at St. Simon Stock Parish Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 178 W. White Horse Pike, Berlin NJ. Interment with Military Honors to follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Blackwood NJ. The family is asking that everyone in attendance please wear a mask. 

 

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105 would be appreciated. To leave lasting condolences or photos, please use the links on this page.
