Obituary of Geraldine C. Canfield

Please share a memory of Geraldine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Geraldine C. Canfield “Gerry”, 75 years, of Berlin NJ, passed away on May 7, 2022. Daughter of Emilia and Edward Kerns. Beloved wife for 47 years of Carl W. Canfield. Loving mother of Carl W. Canfield, Jr. (Rachel). Cherished grandmother of Emilia Canfield. Also survived by her yellow lab Duke.

Gerry was a wife, mother, educator and homemaker and a fantastic person who wore many hats.

She graduated from Saint Joan of Arc High School in Fairview in 1964 and Glassboro State in 1968 with an elementary school degree. She began her career at the Woodlynne Elementary School where she would stay for 38 years as an elementary and special education teacher. She developed many friends from her time as a teacher they would constantly keep in touch no matter where life would take them. They would even meet for breakfast and laugh and talk about the memories and the lives they touched together. She had many fond memories of that time. Whenever she had a chance, she would tell you a story of her time impacting the young minds of the students she taught.

Her son Carl was the center of her world, and she was always there for him. She was consistently in his corner and pushed him to be the best he could be. She would go anywhere and do anything for him and promised to protect and love him always.

Her granddaughter Emilia stole her heart. She loved so much to watch her grow up. She was always asking how her schooling was going, that was very important to her.

She loved spending time with her family whether at car shows, doing crossword puzzles, reading by the pool or gathering with family and friends.

Family was always important to her and while many of our family members had already passed on, she was always reminicing with her stories of where they had been and showing photographs of them.

She touched so many lives outside her family circle. At the car shows with her family or a birthday party or other event, she was always trying to socialize with a group and constantly talking about her family. She was so proud of them and never was shy to tell people about them.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing on Wednesday May 18, 2022 from 10:00AM to 11:30AM at the St. Simon Stock Parish, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 178 W. White Horse Pike, Berlin NJ 08009. Mass of Christian Burial 11:30AM. Interment will take place privately. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Regional School at 1 N.
