Obituary of Mary E. Maccaroni-Nevin

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mary E. Maccaroni-Nevin (née McGuckin), 101 years, of Voorhees NJ formerly of Berlin NJ, passed away on June 2, 2022. Beloved wife of the late Nicholas A. Maccaroni and Steven W. Nevin. Loving mother of James (Carol) Maccaroni, Nicholas (Debra) Maccaroni and Gloria (Simon) Webb. Cherished grandmother of 6 and great grandmother of 4. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Mary E. McGuckin Maccaroni-Nevin born May 26 ,1921 in Philadelphia and died June 2nd, 2022- living and enjoying life for 101 years. Mary, Mickey, Mom, Grandmom, Mom Mom, - was like no other. Kind, caring, thoughtful, considerate, loving, creative and fun are just some of the words to describe her. Mary was a doer – not a standby the sidelines kind of woman.

Raised in Pine Hill NJ, she was the oldest of 3 girls. She worked at Clementon Lake Park, enjoyed roller skating, and going to the movies. She met Nick Maccaroni and they married on June 20th,1942. After the war they made Berlin their home where they raised their three children.

Mom was a supportive mother always pointing the direction but letting us find our own path. She was a Boy Scout leader, the driver -picker upper, the costume maker, and always made you feel special.

Mary got involved in local politics and ran for Council and was President of the Berlin Republican Club. She was President of the Bishop Eustace Mothers Club, active in the Our Lady Mount Carmel church and a choir member. She was a member and president of the Garden State Chapter of the Sweet Adeline’s. Not only was she a member but the costume director and chapter seamstress.

For several years, she worked at the Sears & Roebuck catalog store in Berlin managing the call center and then the service center and to Mom it wasn’t a job but an extension of her family. Mom’s favorite things were her family, her cherished friends, her garden, flower arranging, cooking, baking, sewing, and painting and crafts.  She loved entertaining in their home and did it with ease. Her collection of china teacups were one of her favorite possessions and enjoyed having the ladies over for tea. She started a Red Hat Chapter and was queen mom.  She was a friend to many; she would make her own greeting cards and ill friends would be delivered homemade soup or a yummy cake.

Sadly, dad passed 1985 at the young age of 65. Mom continued to work and found support from family, friends, and work associates.  It was at a work associates party that she met Steve Nevin, they married in 1989 and they had 29 wonderful years together until he passed in 2018. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and always had their favorite treat or a little gift on hand. Mom happily moved to Voorhees Senior Living in 2020 where she began her new life until Covid took away all of the freedoms of independent living.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing on Friday June 10, 2022 from 9:30AM to 11:00AM at St. Simon Stock Parish Our Lady Of Mt. Carmel Church, 178 White Horse Pike, Berlin NJ 08009.
