Catherine (Cathy) Delia Gosse, age 66, of Marlton, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2022 at the Samaritan Hospice in Voorhees, New Jersey.

Cathy was born on July 15, 1955, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Carmella (Iero) Gosse and Thomas J. Gosse, Sr.  Cathy grew up in the Berlin Estates and attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel grade school in Berlin, New Jersey. She was an excellent student. She went on to Camden Catholic High School and, upon her graduation in 1973, Cathy received the Bishop Guilfoyle Award for Academic Excellence and a full academic scholarship to West Chester State College. Cathy graduated from West Chester in 1977, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and a Certification in Special Education.

In September of 1977 Cathy began her professional career as a special education teacher at the Pennsauken Central Elementary School, teaching seven- and eight-year-old students who were perceptually impaired.  In 1984 Cathy left the elementary school to teach at the Pennsauken Middle School.  While at the Middle School, Cathy became interested in counseling.  She decided to study counseling at Glassboro State College (now Rowan) and in May of 1989 Cathy was awarded a master’s degree in Education Counseling.  Beginning in the Fall of 1989, Cathy began working as student counselor at Pennsauken High School.  She remained in this position until she retired from the Pennsauken School District in 2012.

During her 37-year education career at Pennsauken, Cathy became heavily involved with her local teacher’s union.  She remained involved with this organization throughout her career, spending countless hours as a member of the Pennsauken Education Association Negotiations Team.  Cathy was also involved in numerous other education-related organizations, associations and committees, which included  the NEA (National Education Association), the NJEA (New Jersey Education Association), the CCCEA (Camden County Council of Education Associations), Delegate to the NEA Annual Convention,  the NJREA Executive Board,  the NJREA Philanthropic Committee Chairperson of the NJREA Scholarship Committee,  President of the Pennsauken Education Association, and Chairperson of the PEA In-Service Committee.

While Cathy was passionate about public education, Cathy valued family above and beyond everything else in life.  Cathy was very protective of her family and fiercely loyal to them.  Cathy is survived by her sister Camille (née Gosse) Gibson, and her husband Doug Gibson, her brother Tom Gosse and his wife Kathleen (née Delaney), her niece Lisa (née Gibson) Hennessey and her husband Matt Hennessey, her niece Karen (née Gibson) Heisler and her husband Jake Heisler, her nephew Thomas Gosse, her niece Annie Gosse, seven great nieces and nephews, James, Ryan, Luke, and Maggie, Abigail, Ella and Will, and dozens of cousins.

Cathy is predeceased by her mother Carmella (née Iero) Gosse, her father Thomas Gosse, and her pet beagle, Perky.
