Obituary of Michael Peter Crescenz

Please share a memory of Michael to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Michael Peter Crescenz, age 35, tragically lost the fight for his life in the ICU that Wednesday afternoon, it was July 29th, 2022.  As we watched, my beloved sons heart stopped beating, along with other complications that wouldn’t allow him another breath.

We very recently lost Michael’s father, Pete, so he is survived by his mother Joan Crescenz, sister Candace Crescenz, her son Mason, many aunts, uncles and cousins from both parent’s sides and his grandmother, Evelyn Koch.

Michael was raised in Northeast Philadelphia for the first 9 years of his life and loved the city.  He had many friends and this is where he began to shine in many areas.  He’d tell us many times about going past his first home and driving around finding new (and old) places to enjoy.

Mike, a tall charismatic, well kept young man made a lasting impression on most people he met. Young Michael showed a tendency towards pleasing and entertaining everyone, even strangers had a kind word and a laugh for his antics.

He was always willing to experience new things, it seemed there was no limit to his curiosities and yearning to seek out what his world had to offer.

Michael, a free spirit, was well organized, intelligent, even when young he loved a good book (to the end he was a card-carrying member of many public libraries as well as an extensive library of his own books) movie, conversation, keeping busy or just taking a walk on the beach or in the woods.  He had his father’s devote work ethic and applied himself completely in everything he was tasked with.

His more recent job as a fork lift operator, truck, van, delivery driver was extremely strenuous, physically and mentally but he made the best of it, always had a song in his heart and was literally singing it.  As he was delivering pandemic supplies in New York, North Jersey and elsewhere he’d facetime and talk during his traffic delays in NY.  Music, any genre, musician, song, concert, music event, video (he was asked to appear in one of his favorite groups music videos, albeit brief, quite memorable.)  The same applied to movies, books, comedy skits, food and many other interests.  He didn’t hesitate to try to make you laugh, anyone who knew him could appreciate that.  You are so very missed Michael.  Gone to soon…..

Michael loved his family and always helped out if he was around.  He loved his nephew Mason, they got along great, after all a little kid recognizes a big kid when he sees one.  The image of tall Mike at the sink with shorter Mason right next to him is funny but so very loving.

Michael made the most of what he had; his girlfriends had their hands full when they were with him.  He wanted to settle down but was so very restless.  He was always moving, looking for adventure, something to do.  If you wanted to go somewhere, you didn’t have to ask him twice.  He took the January, 2022 ice plunge into the Atlantic Ocean, he said maybe only just this time when he got out.

I’d like to summarize on one note, Michael’s obituary was delayed for a reason. The night before Mike ended up in the ICU he was in a car accident, the air bags deployed and his car was totaled.  The passenger went to the hospital, Michael opted out of going to be checked out.  They were going to a campsite, Mike ended up at the site, sometime during the night he “ended up lying in the dirt with his leg under him cutting off circulation.”  The “friend” saw Mike and anyone who knows Michael would expect him to be up and about looking for his coffee and something to do. His car was towed so he had no way out. Mike got a “nudge” and just grunted?  So this “friend” left him there and went to work,   When he returned 5-6 hours later, there’s Mike laying exactly the same way as earlier.  It was only then, 911 was called, well it was to late.  Yes, Michael had some demons, I don’t think that is what led him to his death.  I feel it was a selfish, thoughtless, lack of human decency and the negligence to do the right thing at the right time that killed our Michael.

We miss and love you Michael, you are forever in our thoughts and hearts, your dad and you can find peace and your restless mind can now be calm, your spirit is now free.  Both gone to soon.

Cremation was private. Services for Michael will be announced at a later date. Arrangements under the direction of the COSTANTINO-PRIMO FUNERAL HOME, BERLIN NJ. To leave lasting condolences or photos, please use the links on this page.
