Obituary of Dorothy Alibrando

Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Dorothy “Duffy” Alibrando (née McLaughlin) passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2022 age 70. Beloved wife of Michael. They were married 34 years.

Duffy was born in Norristown, PA, but her parents James McLaughlin and Dorothy moved to Chicago, and then finally settled in Minneapolis, where Duffy, the big sister, and her siblings, Michael, James, Rosemary, Louis, Johnathan, William, Timothy and Molly were raised and educated. She also learned to play the harp and became the owner of one for life.

Duffy attended and graduated from St. Catherine University doubling in Higher Mathematics and Library Science. At Drexel University she earned a Masters in Library Science.

Duffy was a Special Research Librarian at several corporate settings until 1988 she landed at the Special Library for the Department of Environmental Protection for the State of New Jersey. A position she treasured and a place were she made many lifelong friends. She retired in 2018 after a diagnosis of Alzheimer's.

Duffy's hobbies changed often, but the one passion that never changed was the one for Books. She was an avid reader and read ever Mystery she could get her hands on. She also enjoyed watching TV and movies with her husband. Star Trek, Star Wars, Doctor Who, were among her favorites. The two met at a Doctor Who convention and it was a story she never tired of telling people.

When Duffy watched her favorite movie, The Princess Bride, she would quote every line, but her favorite line to say as people were departing, "Have fun stormin' the castle!"

On Duffy's instructions, her body was sent to Anatomy Gifts Registry where, hopefully, they will use it to aid in the discovery of a cure for Alzheimer's.
