Obituary of Robert O. Zulueta

Robert O. Zulueta, 76 years from Berlin, NJ, passed away on December 27, 2022.  Beloved husband of Merla Zulueta (née Bumanlag), devoted father of Sarah (Ian) of Ardmore, PA, Theo (Lissy) of Sicklerville, NJ, and Christina of Lafayette Hill, PA.  Cherished grandfather of Cassia, Teo, Jessa, and Jett Zulueta, Aiden and Ryan Randolph and Isabel and Leila Drain. 

He is a loving and supportive brother of Yolanda Bermudez, Amadito Zulueta (Leonarda), Jose Zulueta (Virginia), Primo Zulueta (Marilyn), and Freda (Angelo) Verzon. Robert was predeceased by his parents Teofilo and Nieves Zulueta (née Orduna) and siblings Ester Zulueta, Teofilo Zulueta, Jr., Della Zulueta and Fernando Zulueta. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

Robert was born and raised in Dagupan City, Philippines where he graduated from Dagupan City High School (’63) and Dagupan City College. He came to the United States in 1970 to further his studies and received a B.S. and M.S. at Villanova University. He pursued a successful career as a professional civil and structural engineer at companies such as Parsons Brinkerhoff, PSE&G Power, Worley Parsons, and BASF. While his demanding career took him to many places across the country and the globe, his main goal was to provide the best possible life for his family.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling and participated in civic and professional organizations including holding positions as Vice President of the Kiwanis Club of Westland (MI) and President of Philippines Technology Society of Michigan (PTSM). He was also an active parish member of St. Simon Stock Parish (Our Lady of Mt. Carmel) and St. Andrew the Apostle Church. 

Family and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Saturday, December 31, 2022 from 10:00AM to 11:00AM at Saint Simon Stock Parish, 178 W. White Horse Pike, Berlin, NJ. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00AM. Interment to follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Berlin, NJ. Family and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Robert after the interment at Lucien’s Manor, Berlin, NJ. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Regional School, 1 N.
