Obituary of June E. Daniels

Please share a memory of June to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

June E. Daniels was born to the late John Leroy and Gertrude Mackey in Bridgeport Connecticut. At the age of eleven, both parents passed one month of each other.  Her uncle Kirt Harrison and his wife Mary adopted June and moved her to Rocky Mount, North Carolina, where she was raised. June attended and finished Booker T. Washington High School. In her Junior Year, June won the title and became the Home Coming Queen. June had many talents.  To name a few, June could “tap dance”, play the drums, played some notes on the piano, and was a great speller. June always believed that Jesus Christ was her Savior.

After graduation, June and her girlfriend Carrie, moved to Newark, New Jersey, to live with Carrie’s sister and her husband.  While living there, June decided on a career path. June unwaveringly chose to enter a Clerical School. Later, June was employed by The Nopco Chemical Company as a private secretary. While working at S. Kline Department Store, part-time, to earn Christmas Money for the holidays during 1961, June met a young man working part-time also.  His name was Willie Daniels!  Willie attended school to become a “Tool and Die Maker”, under an apprenticeship, on every Tuesday and Thursday Nights. The two would meet every Thursday Night after school to go “Roller Skating”. Well, they both fell “head over heels” in love!

After almost two years of dating, Willie asked June to marry him. They were united in Holy Matrimony, April 27, 1963. Shortly thereafter, Willie received his draft notification in May 1963. November of 1963, Willie was called to serve in the United States Army! Willie was deployed and sent to Vietnam.  Even though June and Avi, there 1st born, lived in a Military Community, June always prayed that she would never be visited by a Military Officer.

June and Willie moved to Somerdale, New Jersey in November 1969, after buying their present home. There, they raised Avi and Torsten. They both joined Bethany Baptist Church under the Leadership of Rev. Eldridge Williamson, Earl Avenue, Somerdale, New Jersey. June became the Church Treasurer. Willie was ordained as a Deacon. Avi and Torsten attended Park School and Sterling High School where they both excelled in sports. June did not work for 15 years. Therefore, that gave her the time and privilege to travel with Avi and Torsten to their sporting events. However, when June returned to employment, June was hired and thereafter employed by the Somerdale School District for 27 years. As a Park School employee and Secretary, June was well respected and loved. June was a court stenographer for many years at Somerdale courts.

June and Willie later moved their church membership to Greater Calvary Baptist Church, West Atco, NJ, under the Pastoralship of the Late Rev. Dr. Rudolph Johnson, They have been members there ever since. June as Church Treasurer and Willie as Chairman of Deacons. June was a dedicated and great church treasurer. Always “dotting her I’s and crossing her T’s. Making sure all figures were correct and would not be rushed in doing so. June would have Deacon Willie waiting upstairs at church until her job was completed. June also sang with Willie on The Silvertones Choir at Greater Calvary for many, many years until the Choir was dissolved.

June and Wille renewed their vows for the second time on Saturday, April 29, 2023, in the presence of family and friends. Was planning to renew their vows again in another twenty years, however, the Lord saw that June was getting tired and needed her rest. The Lord took it seriously and called June home. The Lord whispered to June. “Come onto me and I will give you rest.” June accepted His invitation on Saturday, July 1, 2023, In Jesus Precious Name.

June leaves to cherish her memories: Her devoted husband Willie of 60 years, two months, and four days. Daughter Avi Williams (George); Son Torsten W. Daniels (Heidi); Four grandchildren; Monika Williams, Mariya Williams, Kyla Daniels and Autumn Daniels. Two Sister-in-laws: Annie Daniels (The late Eddie) and Bettie Daniels (The Late Gilbert). A host of nieces and nephews, whom June loved dearly. Two Special Girlfriends; Carrie Priester and Dorothy Lancaster.
