I first met Bob at Green Valley in the summer of 1983 as new members during the Tuesday night men's league for new members. He was a pretty good tennis player and we became friends, along with Jerry Fisher, Ivan Cornwell, Ron Cleaver, and Harvey Stick joined our group a year or so later. Bob took our group to his place at Sea Colony that fall for the 1st of many tennis weekends until He sold the place.
Bob was my 1st doubles partner and while our record wasn't stellar, we had a lot of fun. Bob attributed his fun, not overly serious attitude to Ann. He had said he was very upset about losing a tennis match, she replied, Did you loose your job, are the kids alright?
We had a tennis contract for many years that grew into the Hoagie group. Jerry, Ivan and I all bought properties in Hilton Head when he was there taking care of his mother. We later had time as a group at Sea Colony when I bought homes there.
Over the last number of years, we didn't see each other often, exchanging some phone calls and texts. I'm very thankful that Harvey worked very hard to get us together for what became "Hoagie" time. I very much appreciate Ann's help in facilitating that time for us.
It was fun meeting Bob's NC Golf group. He was a special person who had a great positive affect on so many people in so many places, and will be greatly missed.
My Condolences to Ann and everyone in their family.

Bob and I met in a office supply in Hilton Head. He always told everyone I picked him up there. We played golf, took a four day lesson on how to get out of traps, not that we had ever been in one mind you. My family and I were meeting for dinner and I invited Bob to come. He came a little late and had a pink shirt on just as I did. We kidded each other-I said real men could wear pink— he swore his was burnt orange— he never was as comfortable in his manhood as I was I guess. What a great friend he turned out to be. No matter who picked who up, we became good friendsj

Our Monday morning 9 hole matches are tied @ 2 apiece. When we tee it up for the rubber match I'll continue my sense of fair play like I did in our other matches by reminding you that your down hill putt is slightly up hill.
See You on the 1st Tee My Friend

‘Spending an extra semester to graduate’ & ‘sneaking Ebbets Field’ reminds me of the time I told Uncle Bob how to “properly” pour a beer. I (a boastful, 19-year old, college student) criticized Uncle Bob’s pour and noted there was too much foam/head in the glass. “No, no, no, Uncle Bob. You need to tilt the glass like this,” I arrogantly instructed. Bob put his hand on my shoulder and said, “Kid, you telling me how to pour a beer is the same as you telling Babe Ruth how to swing a bat.” He gave his sideways grin, and we had a good laugh. Sincere condolences to Aunt Ann, my cousins, and extended family & friends. I’ll try to keep my tears from watering down my beer – with the perfect amount of foam! Cheers to an awesome all-around individual! -Pete Gorman (SF, CA)
