Obituary of George Edwin Johnson

Please share a memory of George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

George E. Johnson

of Cedar Brook, NJ went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 3rd, 2019, age 74 years.

George was born in Upper Darby, PA on November 6,1945. The son of Lucille and Alexander Johnson, he grew up in Lindenwold, New Jersey.

George graduated from Pennsauken Vocational school in the electrical trade. He married his wife Helen (nee Bakley) on October 31,1970 and soon after moved to Winslow Township where he raised his two children George Johnson (Ann) and Jennifer Wicks (Karl). Proud grandfather of Corbyn and Hanna. Dear brother of Arline DeLussey and Raymond Johnson and his wife Vanessa.

George worked in the electrical field for his entire career; in 1980 he started his own company, Johnson Electric. In addition to operating his business, he taught electric shop and later CET at Camden County Vocational Technical School for 25 years, until his retirement in 2000.

After his “retirement” he took a job at Municipal Maintenance as an electrician where he worked until October 2015.

Over the years he volunteered for Lindenwold, Magnolia, and Cedar Brook fire companies. He was a longtime member of Burlington Harley Owners Group and later Burlington Harley Riders.

His hobbies included wood working projects, riding his Harley (Elvira), paint by numbers, building models, and HO trains.

With all his interests and hobbies George was most happy when he was surrounded by his family, friends and his sweet dog, Leona.

His second-best interest was his bi-weekly breakfast meeting with his church buddies, the “cool guys”, as he called them. Often during his illness he would push himself to make sure he got to those breakfasts. Sharing the Bible and stories of the old days were often the one thing that kept him going. The influence of these men softened his heart and showed him a God who accepted anyone no matter who you are. He saw a God who was real and who loved him enough to send His Son to die on the cross for him. On December 3, 2018, one year to the day of his death, he walked into church for a Cancer Care meeting at Solid Rock and accepted Jesus as his Savior. His words from then on were, “I’m a new man” and “God’s got me, I can’t go wrong”.

So many people have been influenced by his vast knowledge and touched by his generosity; George will be best remembered for his indomitable courage in the face of crippling cancer.

Every day was a determination to beat it as long as possible.

He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
