My Dear Carol, I rode on gossamer wings everyday of my life because you were there! You were just like a Mom to me when Mom wasn't there. You comforted me when I needed comfort. You took me under your wings when I lost Mom & Dad and brought me to higher ground. You met all my needs beautifully and perfectly, just like the true angel you are and always were your whole life. You are always on a pedestal, I admire you so much! You are one of the greatest people whoever walked the face of the earth. You will never ever be forgotten and you will always be with me. Now I know, you too will ride on gossamer wings and be free. I truly love you! Your loving sister, Debbie

What can one possibly say that would even begin to describe the complexity of a persons life and what they have meant to those that they have shared with? I guess with the feeling that they left others with. For me that feeling was always warm. Aunt Carol‘s hugs were like warm, strong soft pillows to fall into. Her advice was usually on point and her “lessons” we are memorable. Her humor and wit was unstoppable. Her cakes were creative, delicious, thoughtful and pure gifts of perfection. At times she would give the most personal gifts as well. For example, maybe a painstakingly created scrapbook of your adolescent highs and lows or a “Judy wind up doll” poking fun at the day-to-day craziness of motherhood. She appreciated the soft delicate innocence of a newborn babe and babies and children everywhere took to her like a moth to a flame. Her love of Cinderella and fairytale romance seemed a pure celebration of her femininity and belief in true love. She was a matriarch. The daughter that was always there, the sister that always called, the wife that was forever loyal, the mother that cared so very much, the aunt that always listened and laughed and the grandma that love unconditionally and lived for the joy of her beautiful grandkids. She will be dearly missed and I would like to send all the love and my deepest condolences to her children and the beautiful family she has left behind. We love you.

I’ve been struggling with what to say about my Aunt Carol. There are so many memories and words seem so small when compared to the person she was. But, in all the thinking I’ve been doing, I keep coming back to (among the many great things she said and did) the special cakes that she used to make us.
Growing up, one of the things I was most always most excited about every birthday, whether mine or someone else’s, was a cake made by Aunt Carol. She would make these cakes... They were odd and creative and fun and beautiful and delicious and, well, difficult to describe. They were always specific to your birthday party and often fitting strange requests (i.e. childhood demands). They were layered in ways that even cakes usually aren’t. And everyone always wanted to carry a piece home with them.
Aunt Carol was sweet. She was always ready with a smile and would be the first to laugh at or crack a good joke. She was also always encouraging of you and your dreams, whatever they were. Even in dark times, she had a face that was clearly built by a perpetual smile, so it always shone through.
Aunt Carol was specific. As a person and with her questions, with her sense of humor, with everything she did. She was inquisitive, caring, understanding, creative… She was so many things to so many people.
Aunt Carol had layers. As did her lessons. Her lessons were always subtle and beautiful and fun. That’s why they stuck. And I don’t think it’s a coincidence that I (or my sister) worked with kids. Aunt Carol was so good with kids, you couldn’t help but learn from that as well.
I never fully appreciated all she did for me when she was with us, let alone when I was a child. I just loved how fun and sweet she was, like icing. But, I’m realizing more and more, with time, as I’ve grown older and become an adult, a teacher, a mentor, a caregiver, a sister, and an aunt myself… That, whenever I’ve offered an encouraging word, an inquisitive question, a good joke, or a thoughtful lesson; whenever I’ve treated someone with love, kindness, care, or understanding... Aunt Carol was with me.
People say you are what you eat. I think you are what you make. Especially for others. And Aunt Carol, like her birthday cakes, was special, creative, sweet, funny, specific, layered, and occasionally on fire. You loved them at first sight, as you took them in, and even more with time.
I’ll miss my Aunt Carol. A lot. But, like a slice of one of her super neat cakes, I’ll always carry a piece of her with me.
-Eve

Aunt Carol will forever be in our hearts and memories as one of the most quick witted, fun loving, hilarious, beautiful souls that got to grace this earth. Her humor was impeccable. I loved her teasing and hilarious quips. When I was little she was the cool aunt hostess with the mostest. From Christmas karaoke gatherings, to having me on her lap playing the “Stranger Game”, to chatting over cups of tea, to ALWAYS walking you to the door and waving as you drove away, she will forever be a part of me and who I have become. I love her and thank her for all the wonderful memories. Anyone that knew her is truly blessed.

I worked with Carol for years at Gibbsboro School. Always a smile and so easy to talk to. She left behind many memories for the children she worked with. I am sure they changed her life as much as she changed their's. To her loved ones know that you were touched by a very special lady. I know she will be missed by her family and the Cedar Grove Cemetery where she served as a board member. We all lost someone who truly made a difference. Lorraine Parkinson Nogle
