Obituary of James Leo Talley

Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

James L. Talley (81) of Voorhees, NJ passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 27, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of 54 years to Sandra (née Bartoseck) Talley, loving father to Stephanie Talley, Julie Catania (Tino), Jimmy Talley (Amanda) and adoring Pop Pop to Massimo, Giovanni, Samantha and Grant. He is survived by his sister Eileen (Talley) Chiro and her husband Dominick, two nephews and nieces and extended family and friends.

Jim was a 1959 graduate of Gloucester Catholic High School where he played basketball. After high school, Jim served in the US Army during the Vietnam War where he was stationed in Germany.

In 1968, Jim began working in the elevator business and was a skilled Elevator Mechanic from 1969-2004. He was a proud member of the International Union of Elevator Constructors Local # 5 in Phila. After his retirement in 2004, Jim continued to enjoy working as a State of New Jersey Elevator Inspector from 2004-2019.

Since 2004, Jim has been an active member of the Jersey Gaffers Fishing Club. Although it is unclear how many fish Jim actually caught, he loved fishing, and traveling with his buddies to many destinations including Costa Rica, Bimini and Belize.

“Talley” was an avid WVU Mountaineer fan and an Eagles fan who loved tailgating with his friends. He was a loving husband, a proud father, an adoring grandfather and a true friend. Jim had a gift with people. He was kind, humble, caring and guaranteed to make you laugh! He never complained and only had nice words to say. He believed “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.” Jim loved being with friends and family. He was often heard telling anyone, doctors, nurses, co-workers, neighbors, old friends….” stop by and have a drink”. And he truly meant it!!

Friends and family are invited to attend his viewing Wednesday, July 7,2021, 9:30AM-11AM at St. Simon Stock Parish Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church 178 W. White Horse Pike Berlin, NJ. Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00AM. Interment St. Joseph’s Cemetery 240 Lower Landing Rd. Blackwood, NJ.
