I knew Shirley through my husband Vincent.
You never met a smarter person in your life.
Tough as nails ……. But good inside where it counts. I truly respected her. Funny as hell in her satirical manner. I will miss you.

I am very saddened to hear of the passing of Shirley. We lived in the same condo in OCNJ since I moved in 2004. We became very good friends and she always had time to share a thought with me. She was wonderful during the tragedy of my daughter and I will never forget her kindness despite having many of her own trials and tribulations. May you Rest In Peace; Shirley, my friend Say hi to Michelle up there in heaven

Shirley was a great friend for over fifty years. You could always depend on her giving you a straight answer, even if you didn't like it. For nearly forty years she intercepted thousands of students (and hundreds of teachers) who showed up for school in deplorable health and helped them all. She also had an uncanny knack of gauging the emotional health of students and would take action. A lot of good for a lot of people. A great loss. I will miss her terribly.

My dear Shirley,
You will be remembered forever. A force of nature, you commanded every room you entered. I loved your strong personality, your hearty laugh, your fierce loyalty to friends and family. You were one in a million and I will miss you greatly.
To Greta and Debbie,
Although we've never met, I heard your mom speak lovingly about you for over 50 years. You were amazing daughters to her, and my heart aches for your huge loss. May Shirley now be at peace with dear Marty.

Debbie and Greta,
Several years ago after your dad had taken ill we ran into each other at the Acme in Voorhees and as we discussed old times, health issues, and mortality he told me that when his father passed away he stood at his coffin and cried, not because he had passed away but because he had never really lived!
Your mother had a long life, married the love of her life, had a wonderful family that brought her great joy and happiness, and had a job that provided her with satisfaction, accomplishment, and friends that lasted a lifetime. As we stand by your mother’s casket a tear may come to our eyes now that she has passed but our hearts fill with joy knowing that during her time on this earth she really lived life to the fullest! Well done, Shirley. Well done.

Debbie, Greta and families-please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of your Mom. I have many wonderful memories of the time spent at your house while growing up. Your parents were both kind and generous with their time. I especially remember feeling very small as we rode in the back of your Mom's Cadillacs to the pool or Mary Kentz. I'll always look back fondly.

To the family of Shirley Martinsek,
I am very sorry to hear of Shirely’s passing. Some my fondest memories involved Shirley. Those memories of Shirley. are so memorable. She was one of the first people I met at Eastern, and she was always very frank, honest, and told it like it was. I laugh so hard at some of those stories. I loved Shirley. Please accept my sincerest condolences, and thank you for sharing Shirley with the Eastern High School community

How can one describe Shirley! I first met her in 1987 when I started working at Eastern high School. What a great person. We became friends the minute she approached my desk. I will miss seeing Shirley at our monthly luncheons but I know she is now with the love of her life, “Marty” in heaven and that brings me comfort. You go girl!!!!!!

Mrs. Martinsek you will always be part of my Eastern memories; from pulling guys out of the hall for not being clean shaven to being someone to talk to. You truly gave your all to the students, faculty and staff. You even gave a couple of us a beer when we visited you at your home after graduation. When our parents moved to a retirement community you coincidentally lived behind them and were always there to help my mother after my father passed. May God bless you and your beautiful family.

Shirley was one of the giants in the history of Eastern High School. It would be impossible to calculate the number of students she came in contact with in her time there. To label her as the school nurse only scratches the surface of the things she did for Eastern. She was probably the most recognizable figure in the history of that institution, the "Babe Ruth" of Eastern. She will be long remembered and greatly missed.

During my time @ Eastern, Shirley exhibited those rare traits of standing up for what she believed in...without question! She was often a confidante to many with her tough love approach. She will be sorely missed by the close knit community.

I am sure if Shirley had her way, she thought she was going to live forever; however, I know how she missed Marty, and so there is comfort in knowing they are together again. She will be sorely missed by her daughters and their families...and the EHS family.

What can I say? She was an amazing lady and I can't believe she is gone. She thought I was her secretary and Miss Gongol would often tell her that I was NOT her personal secretary. We shared many laughs and fun times together. The stories could go on and on. She is truly missed. My sincere condolences go out to Deb and Greta and the entire family. Heaven has gained a beautiful angel. How blessed I feel to have know her!
