Obituary of Shirley A. Martinsek

Shirley A Martinsek (née Yelovich), 87 years, of Gibbsboro NJ, passed away on June 7, 2022. Daughter of the late George and Ann Young (née Herbik). Beloved wife of the late Henry “Marty” Martinsek. Cherished mother of her devoted daughters, Debra Roselli (Louis) and Greta Spirit (Paul). Dear sister of David Young (Marjorie) and Thomas Young (the late Georgette). Loving grandmother of Kristofer Roselli (Kaity), Mark Roselli (Dorthea), Katie Alleva (Ryan), Karlee Spirit and great grandmother to Ford Alleva.

 

Born and raised in Windber PA, she received her nursing degree from Saint Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in Lancaster PA and her BA in Health Education from Glassboro State College. Her career began at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Camden NJ in the 1960s. She then became the first school nurse at Eastern Regional High School, Voorhees NJ where she was nicknamed the “White Knight” by students for 38 years. She loved her EHS community and retired in 2003.

 

Shirley was a parishioner at St. Andrews Church in Gibbsboro NJ where she was also the former CCD instructor. She was a member of the New Jersey Nurse’s Association, Camden County Nurse’s Association, Eastern Educational Association, NJEA, St Joseph’s Alumni, Board of Health and the Eastern Golden Vikings.

 

She had a zest for life and enjoyed time with family and friends, her home in Ocean City, the casinos and traveling. She was an avid Eagles, Phillies and Eastern Vikings fan. She will be dearly missed by her family her friends and the nursing community.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing on Saturday June 11, 2022 from 9:30AM to 11:00AM at St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 27 Kresson-Gibbsboro Road, Gibbsboro NJ 08026. Funeral Mass 11:00AM. Interment will take place privately in New St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bellmawr NJ. Arrangements under the direction of the COSTANTINO-PRIMO FUNERAL HOME, BERLIN NJ. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Samaritan Hospice at PO Box 71425 Philadelphia PA 19146 would be appreciated. To leave lasting condolences or photos, please use the links on this page.
